Our driver , Victor brought us back to Quito today from Banos. I hated to leave. Banos was a perfect little town for us. I didn't mention that the volcano in Banos regularly has mini explosions that sound like gun shots. Once we heard 16 in a row. Norbert counted them. They are caused by gases ad ash.
So you can see the danger of these homes built on the hillside. They are as vulnerable to sliding down as the slide in the previous picture when there is heavy rain or earthquakes.
Rocks fallen on the road are common and they close sections of the divided highway when this happens IF they know of it.
Note the road to the right completely blocked by fallen dirt and rocks.
Military residences.
The tow of Salasaca is the home of the Salasaca Indigenous people. The men wear white pants and the women wear traditional dress.
We are staying in the wonderful old Hotel Cuba . Unfortunately the restaurant is closed.
