Quito - Mariscal section and a confession

Quito has 2 main tourist centers.  The old town where we stayed before and the Mariscal or newer more lively section - read bar scene centered around Plaza Foch..   We decided to stay this one night in Mariscal  before heading to the Cloud Forest tomorrow.

So we settled briefly and walked the 6 blocks to the Plaza Foch where the nightlife of Quito is concentrated.

We continued on about 12 blocks to the handicraft market which dwarfed the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul!  The colors were vibrant and everywhere.

Stall after stall of jewelry,  blankets, clothing,  trinkets,  carvings,  art

About 10 of these corridors with stalls on each side.   I was worn out but it was a fun place to visit.

On the way back we passed this store - a bit of everything

For the ultimate smoking experience.  I think...

And finally a confession.  WE had planned to have an early dinner on the way back to or hotel but the bars were already hopping and very loud.  We found nowhere to eat and I needed to sit SO...
almost as bad as going to Walmart - we went to Burger King  for coffee and a pastry - dinner will be cereal at our hotel.  I had not been in a Burger King in years.  Actually Coffee Americano was welcome.

I had to check the prices.  They use the US dollar here.  Chicken tenders were $8!!  Maybe true in the States now too.

Tomorrow we go to the cloud forest for 4 days.  No idea what connectivity will be..
